Speaking is an important English skill for students in junior high school, but many struggle with it. Problems like low confidence, not knowing enough words, and not wanting to speak often come up when teachers use old teaching methods. Research shows that movies, which are fun and colorful, can help students feel more interested and enjoy learning more. This study looked at using short clips from the movie Moana as a way to help students improve their speaking skills and feel more motivated. The study was done at SMP Negeri 3 Tasikmalaya with 25 eighth-grade students. The researchers used a qualitative method, which included watching classes over three sessions and talking to five students who were chosen carefully. They looked at the data using thematic analysis. The results showed that students were more focused, excited, and worked together during speaking activities. They used more words, spoke more clearly, talked more smoothly, and were more confident. Students also said that learning with Moana clips was more fun, made them want to learn more, and felt less stressed than usual ways of teaching. They learned new words, were more ready to speak, and felt less nervous about speaking. The classroom became more friendly and lively, which made students more willing to take part and use English regularly in conclusion, using movies and other visual media, especially short clips like those from Moana, helps students improve their speaking skills and feel more motivated. Teachers should use movies in their classes to create a better and more interesting learning environment. Schools should also make sure they have the right tools and resources to use these kinds of materials effectively in teaching English. |
