dc.description.abstract Describing picture is a strategy to train students' imagination and describe something in speaking English. This study aims to determine the use of describing picture strategy in teaching speaking English and to determine the progress of students' ability in speaking English after being taught using describing picture strategy. Utilizing a qualitative approach, data were collected through observation and questionnaire to assess students' their speaking ability to use of describing picture strategy. The participant of this research were 30 students. The results of the research was the implementation of describing picture strategy is used some steps, it started with the researcher introduced the material. The researcher gave 1 theme to be described in class, then students were given the same picture as the previous theme to be described again. Then the researcher assessed that using this strategy could improve students' speaking abilities. As a result, the use of this strategy really helps students improve their speaking. Consequently, the researcher suggests to utilizing this current topic as an alternative strategy to teach speaking fluency. en_US
