THE VIOLATION AND FLOUTING OF GRICEAN MAXIM COOPERATIVE PRINCIPLE REALIZED IN FINDING DORY MOVIE

Abstract

This research describes the violation and flouting of Gricean Maxim’s Cooperative Principle in the conversation of characters in Finding Dory Movie. The present study aims 1) to observe the maxim types violated and flouted by the characters in their utterances in Finding Dory Movie, and 2) to find out the dominant maxims which are violated and flouted by the characters in the movie. This study employed the descriptive qualitative design. The results of the study revealed that the characters often violated the four maxims especially in maxims of quality because the characters lied in the conversation. Besides, the characters often flouted four maxims especially in maxims of quantity since they gave too much information and gave the parable in the conversation. Besides, the dominant violated maxims by the characters are maxim of quality and maxim of quantity, and the dominant flouted maxims are quantity and quality.
