Abstract:
ABSTRACT
This research reveals the perception of the Kuta community about environmental conservation. Description of knowledge
and awareness of the Kuta community about environmental conservation based on the traditions and culture of the Kuta
people who play a role in environmental conservation. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Data collection was
carried out by interview, observation, documentation, and literature study of previous research results. Sampling was done
by purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques. The results of data analysis illustrate the perception of the Kuta
community about environmental conservation, with 23 respondents. Some of the traditions and culture of the people of
Kuta support environmental conservation efforts, but the Kuta people's perceptions of these traditions and culture have not
fully led to environmental conservation. The preservation of local wisdom has a good impact on environmental
conservation. Public perception about environmental conservation is determined by character, age, individual interests,
place of residence, and economic motives. The connection of the Kuta community to traditions and culture related to
environmental conservation appears to have decreased. This is indicated by the occurrence of several customary violations
committed by the community. Thus, the Kuta community's perception of its traditions and culture needs to be directed as
environmental conservation efforts.
