Abstract:
This study aims to determine the process of implementing the nyawen tradition and the philosophical meaning contained in the tradition. The method used in this study is the historical method with heuristics, criticism, interpretation and historiography stages. The results showed that the nyawen tradition was an acculturation of the traditional culture of the Bingkeng Village community with Islamic culture. The nyawen tradition is a tradition of rejecting reinforcements which is carried out at the beginning of every Islamic’s new year. This tradition aims to ask for the safety of the community and their environment so that they are kept away from harm. The procession of implementing the nyawen tradition begins with preparing equipment for making sawen, the process of reading prayers and thanksgiving in the form of eating together as a form of gratitude. The philosophical meaning of the nyawen tradition is as a form of community hope for God Almighty to be given protection and safety as well as unity among others to preserve nature so that the community and the environment where they live are kept away from harm.
