EFEKTIVITAS TERAPI PIJAT REFLEKSI KAKI TERHADAP PENGENDALIAN GLUKOSA DARAH PADA PENDERITA DIABETES MELITUS

Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus, also known as diabetes, is a chronic disease that leads to premature death worldwide. This condition occurs due to a metabolic disorder in the body, characterized by a lack of insulin production by beta cells in the pancreas, muscles, intestines, and fat cells, or the body's failure to respond to insulin, resulting in elevated blood glucose levels or hyperglycemia. According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) 2021 report, the number of adults (aged 20–79) with diabetes worldwide reached 537 million, and this number is projected to increase to 643 million by 2030 and 783 million by 2045. Meanwhile, data from the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in Indonesia show that the national prevalence of diabetes mellitus is 10.9%. This figure makes diabetes one of the major health burdens in Indonesia. Method: This study used a literature review design. The research subjects were identified through databases such as PubMed, ProQuest, and ScienceDirect. The journals reviewed were published within the last 10 years, and 10 relevant journals were selected. Results: The literature review showed that foot reflexology therapy has an effective influence on blood glucose control in individuals with diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: This literature review can serve as valuable information and knowledge for the public about the importance of foot reflexology therapy in controlling blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus.
