Abstract:
Background: Hypertension is one of the degenerative diseases. Hypertension is
often called "the silent killer" because it is often without complaints, so sufferers do
not know that they have hypertension. Hypertension is a major risk factor for stroke,
heart failure and coronary disease, where its role is estimated to be more risky for
the elderly. Purpose: This study was to determine the effect of giving boiled
binahong leaves on lowering blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension.
Method: The design of this study used a literature review. The subjects of the study
were conducted using databases in the form of Proquest, ResearchGate and Google
Scholar. The findings of the journals used in the last 10 years. The search results
obtained 10 relevant journals. Results: Research in the literature review showed
that there was an effect of giving boiled binahong leaves on lowering blood
pressure in the elderly with hypertension before and after the intervention was
given, showing a significant difference with the results of statistical tests obtained
a p (value) <0.05. With an average intervention of 7 days of giving boiled binahong
leaves. Conclusion: This literature review can be used as information and
knowledge for the public regarding the importance of binahong leaf boiled water
intervention as an effort to lower blood pressure in elderly patients with
hypertension.
