Abstract:
Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disease whose prevalence continues to increase,
including among adolescents. Uncontrolled consumption of sweet foods is one of
the main risk factors contributing to the increasing incidence of this disease. This
study aims to determine the relationship between consumption of sweet foods and
the risk of Diabetes Mellitus in adolescents at SMK Negeri 1 Rancah. This study
uses a quantitative method with a descriptive correlative approach and a cross-
sectional design. The sample in this study amounted to 90 respondents taken using
a total sampling technique. Data were collected through a questionnaire on
consumption of sweet foods and the risk of Diabetes Mellitus was measured using
the FINDRISC instrument. Data analysis was carried out using the Spearman Rank
test. The results showed that most respondents had moderate consumption of sweet
foods (82.2%) and all respondents had a very high risk of Diabetes Mellitus (100%).
The statistical test results showed a p-value of 0.959 (p 0.05), indicating no
significant association between sweet food consumption and the risk of diabetes
mellitus in adolescents at SMKN 1 Rancah. Schools and health professionals are
expected to provide regular education on the importance of a healthy diet, adequate
physical activity, and early detection of diabetes mellitus risk factors in adolescents.
Adolescents are also expected to increase awareness of the importance of a healthy
lifestyle to prevent metabolic diseases early on.
