Abstract
Elderly is an age group which is susceptible to health problems, one of the psychological problems is stress. Stress of the elderly is caused by lack of ability to adapt to changes in oneself due to a decrease in physical, mental and social. Therefore the most important support system is family support to help the elderly in adapting to the changes that occur, so that can reduce stress levels.
This study used a descriptive correlation method with a Cross Sectional approach. The sampling technique using Proportional Stratified Random Sampling. The sample in this study was 98 respondents in Cipaku Health Center Working Area. To assess family support variables used family support questionnaires, while the stress levels used Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS). The results were analyzed using Kendal Tau-b.
The results showed that there was a significant relationship between family support and stress levels in the elderly with a value of ρ value (0,000) <0.05. Correlation coefficient r = -0.399 so it can be concluded that family support has a relationship that is opposite to the stress level.
From the results of the study, it is recommended that there is a need to pay attention to the elderly in providing family support for their survival, so that no more severe psychological problems occur.
