This paper focuses on examining students' process in translating non-academic
text. This paper has three research questions: 1) How do the students translate
Indonesian-English non-academic text in translation class?; 2) What challenges
did the students encounter during translation class and how did they solve the
challenges?; 3) What kinds of translation error in Indonesian-English text
generated by student in translation class?. The researcher used qualitative
descriptive as the research design. Five students of a private teacher training
college were the participants of the study. To obtain the data from the participants,
the researcher used interviews and document analysis as the instrument of the
study. The findings showed that: 1) students have different ways in translating
non-academic text: 2) students had difficulties during the translation process from
their grammar or vocabulary, if students found words that were difficult to
understand students would use google translate, u-dictionary, are still ambiguous
sentences students can paraphrase them grammatically: 3) students who did the
translation and had different ways, some of which understood word for word or
sentence sentences and some directly used the translation application, students
also experienced errors when translating such as errors in the grammar section. |
