Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate the implementation and teacher’s perceptions on
the use multimodal digital book in teaching critical literacy at literacy community
in Ciamis. The study used qualitative case study method in the process for data
taken from observation and interview. The participant of this study was chosen
purposively which was an English teacher who taught literacy by the use of
multimodal digital book at literacy community in Ciamis. The result of this study
revealed that (1) The implementation of the use multimodal digital book in teaching
critical literacy same as usual learning which consist of the preparation, whilst
activities and the evaluation. Besides, the use of multimodal digital book also made
learning experience more fun, interesting, and increase students’ motivation; (2)
Several problems emerged on its implementation namely, lack of students’
confidence, class management problems, and technical problems; (3) The teacher
suggested if other teachers want to implement multimodal digital book in teaching,
teachers must have several skills such as technological skill, pedagogical skill, and
artistic sense. Moreover, teachers also should prepare more than one plan in
teaching and provide students with fun and interesting activities. Furthermore, the
teacher also suggested the application which is free and easy to use such as Power
Point and Canva to make multimodal digital book.
