ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to find out the teacher’s strategies in teaching
digital storytelling to stimulate learners’ listening comprehension and
investigate learners’ responses to the use of digital storytelling to stimulate
their listening comprehension. The study used qualitative case study
method in the process for data taken from classroom observation,
interview and questionnaires. The participant of this study was chosen
purposively which were an English teacher who taught the students of
listening skills and eleventh-grade students at one of the senior high
schools in Ciamis. The first finding showed that the teacher tends to use
top-down and bottom-up activities as a strategy in teaching listening using
digital storytelling. Furthermore, the second finding of this study showed
that students view the teaching and learning process of listening using
digital storytelling media as an activity that helps students understand what
the speaker is saying from the video, increases student motivation, and
improves students' listening skills. The conclusion showed that (1) The
teacher used top-down and bottom-up strategies including teacher made
good preparation in teaching listening using digital storytelling; (2) The
teacher provides strategies to overcome some problems such as a lack of
students motivation by make students understand the material provided
and motivate the students. Furthermore, the researcher also suggests free
and easily accessible digital media such as interesting digital storytelling to
be applied in classroom learning.
