The research report in this paper focuses on the problem of Teacher Strategy
applying the Critical Literacy Approach in teaching reading to improve
students' reading skills. This study aims to determine the improvement of
students' reading skills such as reading articles/news in newspapers, on the
subject of asking and giving directions. The subject of the study consists of
30 students sitting in the tenth grade. The researcher applies a mixedmethods design, which is an embedded design. The instruments used are observation and questionnaires. Samples were taken using the random sampling technique. The findings of the observation show that the teacher's strategy in the classroom is effective in improving students' reading skills.
This can be seen from the average total questionnaire results of students
100% (10% strongly agree and 90% agree). It means that students are very
happy when reading and like to ask the teacher. In short, reading is one of
the most important language skills for students to learn. Through this
activity, students can improve their language and experience. They will get
the information and ideas they need to know .
