Abstract:
This study discusses what EFL students need in learning speaking using elearning. The purpose of this study is to find out what EFL students need to
develop materials in learning speaking using e-learning, to find out the constraints
of EFL lecturer educators in developing speaking teaching materials in online
classes using e-learning and to find out what innovations or the steps that have
been taken by EFL lecturers in developing teaching materials for online speaking
classes using e-learning. This research uses a qualitative case study design.
Seventeen students from an English education program and an English lecturer
participated in this study. The data were obtained through a questionnaire to EFL
students to collect data about what EFL students want for online speaking classes
using e-learning, then interviews to examine how EFL educators develop teaching
materials for speaking lessons in online classes using e-learning and what are the
teacher's obstacles. EFL teachers in developing teaching materials for speaking
lessons in online classes used e-learning. Data from interviews revealed that
lecturers have considerations and steps to develop teaching materials. In
conclusion, researchers analysed that teaching materials made by lecturers could
be understood well by students and learning to speak online using e-learning
could be done well. Researchers suggest that lecturers are expected to do oral
practice more often and make variations develop teaching materials so that
learning in class can be more fun and the material is easy to understand and help
students maintain their interest and motivation in learning activities.
