Abstract:
This research focused on teacher and students’ challenges and strategies in writing narrative text by using Google Classroom in a remote area. The purposes were to figure out the challenges which were faced by the teacher and the students in teaching and learning of writing narrative text by using Google classroom in a remote area and the teacher and the students’ strategies to solve their challenges in teaching and learning of writing narrative text by using Google classroom in a remote area. This case study was conducted to the eleventh grade of an Islamic Senior High School in Malangbong Garut. Three instruments in form of the observation, the interview, and the questionnaires were administered. The data were also triangulated by using triangulation analysis. The findings indicated that the teacher and the students faced challenges in teaching and learning of writing narrative text by using Google Classroom in a remote area. The challenges were having difficulties to log in, poor and limited network connection, and limited mobile data. Their challenges were caused by limited knowledge about technology, limited and slow speed internet access, considered as low-income learners, and used low-end mobile gadget. The findings also indicated that the teacher and the students used strategies to solve their challenges. The strategies used by the teacher were relating things in the field of knowledge and technology to stimulate students and exploring other features of Google Classroom. Furthermore, the strategies used by the students exploring all the features, learning how to operate it, and adapting and getting used to with it. Therefore, the English teachers were expected to integrate technology of online application such as Google Classroom in teaching writing of narrative text. Meanwhile, the students were also expected to improve their skill and achievement in writing narrative text by using Google Classroom. In addition, the next researchers were expected to complete and to enrich their research by overcoming and covering the weaknesses of this research
