CODE-SWITCHING OF TEACHER-STUDENT CHATS IN ONLINE TEACHING OF NARRATIVE TEXT (A Case Study of Tenth Grade at One of Vocational High Schools in Ciamis)

Abstract

i i ABSTARCT This paper investigated the type of code-switching were used by both the teacher and students in online teaching of narrative text of a vocational high school in Ciamis, West Java, Indonesia. Besides, this paper also investigated the dominant type of code-switching were used by both the teacher and students in online teaching of narrative text, and the teacher's reason use of code-switching in online teaching of narrative text. This research employed case study design, where qualitative research method was used in this research. The data from observation and interview were analyzed by using triangulation technique. The result of this research showed that the teacher and students used the type of inter-sentential switching, tag switching, intra-sentential switching, and establishing continuity with the previous speakers. Meanwhile, the dominant type of code-switching were used by both teacher and students was inter-sentential switching, and the teacher's reason use of code-switching was to communicative purposes. In addition, suggested for the further research to add an instruments form a questionnaire to enrich the research.
