| dc.description.abstract | Grounded in M.A.K. Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), this research investigates how interpersonal meanings are constructed through the Mood system in narrative reading texts featured in the official Grade XI textbook, Bahasa Inggris: English for Change. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative design, the study examines all extracted clauses from three narratives: "An Inspiring Story of Healthy Living," "Xiye Bastida," and "Aeshnina Azzahra Aqilani." Data analysis involved breaking down clauses into Mood and Residue components, classifying Mood types, and calculating frequency percentages. The results reveal a near-total dominance of the declarative mood, highlighting the texts' primary role in conveying informational content. Conversely, imperatives were entirely unrepresented, and interrogatives were used sparingly as rhetorical devices to prompt reader engagement. Furthermore, interpersonal nuances emerged through strategic Subject selection and Mood Adjuncts, while experiential meanings evolved through dynamic shifts across Relational, Mental, Verbal, and Material processes. These insights underscore valuable implications for Genre-Based pedagogical frameworks and recommend expanding future SFL investigations to encompass larger multimodal corpora. | en_US |
