<title>The Status of the Endangered Rafflesia and Conservation Efforts in Java Island, Indonesia</title>
<link>http://repository.unigal.ac.id:8080/handle/123456789/10648</link>
<description>The Status of the Endangered Rafflesia and Conservation Efforts in Java Island, Indonesia
Rafflesia species (Rafflesiaceae) is a small endo-holoparasitic South-East Asian plant genus known for its exceptionally large flowers, rare species, and high island endemism. Three species of Rafflesia, i.e. R. patma, R. rochussenii, and R. zollingeriana, are known from Java, Indonesia. All three species are threatened with extinction due to human activities that cause habitat loss and fragmentation. Our literature review revealed that currently, factors influencing the existence of this genus, including its life cycle and environmental factors that support its life, are still not well understood. In particular, studies of the distribution and population of Rafflesia on the island of Java have revealed a high level of endemism and the presence of species with high conservation value. Anthropogenic threats to this genus highlight the urgent need to improve understanding and determine priorities for its conservation. The reinforcement of laws and acts to conserve and protect this genus and its species will indirectly protect the tropical rainforest from encroachment activities.

<title>Molecular Identification of Lepidopteran Predators of Coccidae on Coffee Plants (Coffea canephora) in Sigi Regency</title>
<link>http://repository.unigal.ac.id:8080/handle/123456789/8248</link>
<description>Molecular Identification of Lepidopteran Predators of Coccidae on Coffee Plants (Coffea canephora) in Sigi Regency
This study aimed to identify the species of Lepidopteran predators that prey on soft scale insects (Coccidae) found on coffee plants in Sigi Regency using molecular techniques. DNA was extracted using the modified CTAB method (Doyle &amp; Doyle, 1990). PCR amplification targeted the COI gene using universal primers LCO1490 and HCO2198 with a GeneAmp PCR System 9700. Visualization was done using 1% agarose gel and UV-transilluminator. Sequencing was conducted externally. Data were analyzed using BioEdit 7.2.5, BLAST, BOLD Systems, and MEGA11 software. The DNA sequence of the predator sample showed 97.91% similarity to Autoba rubra based on GenBank and 97.59% in BOLD Systems. Phylogenetic analysis confirmed a close genetic relationship with A. rubra, distinct from Eublemma. Morphological similarities with Eublemma were misleading, highlighting the accuracy of molecular identification. This study is the first to confirm the identity of a Lepidopteran predator of coffee scale insects in Indonesia using molecular techniques, revealing its close relation to Autoba rubra. The results correct previous morphological misidentifications and contribute new data on predator diversity in biological control contexts.

<description>Diversity and Abundance of Soil Arthropods in Terrestrial Area of Situ Lengkong Panjalu, West Java, Indonesia
Adnan, Bahana Aditya; Kurniawati, Tiktiek; Trianto, Manap
Soil arthropods play an important role in nutrient cycling and maintenance of soil structure. Thus, their abundance and diversity can indicate the biological quality of the soil. Due to different soil management practices, arthropods are also very sensitive to environmental changes. This study aims to analyze the abundance and diversity of soil arthropods and the environmental factors that support the abundance of soil arthropods in terrestrial of Situ Lengkong Panjalu, West Java, Indonesia. The methods used to obtain samples of soil arthropods are pitfall trap. Soil arthropod data were analyzed to determine the Shannon diversity index (H'), Margalef richness index (R), and Evenness index (E). The effect of abiotic environmental factors was analyzed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). A total of 1263 arthropods were found in Situ Lengkong Panjalu, belonging to 11 orders, 24 families, and 32 morphospecies. The current work determined the scores of H'= 2.08, R = 3,08, and E = 0.72 of soil arthropods in Situ Lengkong Panjalu, West Java, Indonesia. Results revealed that humidity is one such environmental parameter affecting the presence of soil arthropods in Situ Lengkong Panjalu, West Java, Indonesia. This research can be used as a guide in validating and conservation of the habitat of soil arthropod species on West Java.
