<title>The Influence of Language Politeness on the Effectiveness of Student Communication in Academic Discussions and Gender-Based Politeness Differences</title>
<link>http://repository.unigal.ac.id:8080/handle/123456789/8806</link>
<description>The Influence of Language Politeness on the Effectiveness of Student Communication in Academic Discussions and Gender-Based Politeness Differences
Hidayatullah, Asep; Anshori, Dadang S.; Sastromiharjo, Andoyo
This research aims to determine the effect of politeness on the effectiveness of student &#13;
communication in academic discussions and to describe the comparison of politeness &#13;
between male and female students. This study uses a quantitative approach with correlational &#13;
methods and simple linear regression. The subjects of the study were 60 students of Galuh &#13;
University who were selected by purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out &#13;
through a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. The results of the &#13;
analysis showed that there was a positive relationship between politeness in speaking and &#13;
the effectiveness of student communication with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.431 and a &#13;
significance of p &lt;0.05. Simple linear regression analysis produced the equation Y = 38.95 &#13;
+ 0.464X which showed that each increase in politeness in speaking units would increase &#13;
communication effectiveness by 0.464 units. The R-Squared value = 0.186 indicates that &#13;
18.6% of the variation in communication effectiveness can be explained by politeness in &#13;
speaking, while the rest is influenced by other factors. Thus, this study confirms that &#13;
politeness in speaking has a significant influence on the effectiveness of students' &#13;
communication in academic discussions, although there are other factors that play a role. In &#13;
addition, the average score of female students was higher (78.49) than male students (75.44). &#13;
These findings provide important implications for the development of communication skills &#13;
of students (both male and female) to be more polite in conveying ideas so as to create a &#13;
more conducive and productive academic environment.

<title>Forms and Functions of Politeness in the Language of Sundanese Ethnic Students: Patterns, Frequency, and Influence</title>

<description>Forms and Functions of Politeness in the Language of Sundanese Ethnic Students: Patterns, Frequency, and Influence
Hidayatullah, Asep; Anshori, Dadang S.; Sastromiharjo, Andoyo
This study aims to analyze the forms and functions of politeness in Indonesian language &#13;
used by Sundanese ethnic students in formal interactions on campus, as well as to &#13;
determine the patterns, frequency, and effects of the application of politeness in language. &#13;
This study uses a mixed methods approach, which combines qualitative and quantitative &#13;
analysis, and is based on the theory of speech acts and the principles of politeness in &#13;
language. Data were collected through questionnaires, participant observations and in&#13;
depth interviews, which focused on formal conversations, such as class discussions and &#13;
interactions with lecturers. The results showed that Sundanese students more often used &#13;
literal indirect speech acts (67%) in formal conversations. The dominant politeness &#13;
functions include stating, asking, ordering, apologizing, and criticizing, which reflect &#13;
politeness and respect to maintain social harmony. Quantitative analysis revealed that &#13;
literal direct speech acts were used as much as 30%, and non-literal indirect speech acts &#13;
20%, with non-literal direct speech acts only 3%. The Chi-Square test showed a &#13;
significant difference in the use of speech acts between conversations with lecturers and &#13;
between students (χ2=12.5), which indicates that the use of speech acts differs depending &#13;
on the conversational situation. Furthermore, the results of the correlation calculation &#13;
show a positive relationship between Politeness Speech Acts (X) and Academic &#13;
Interaction Quality (Y) with r = 0.678 and t = 7.02, which is statistically significant. The &#13;
coefficient of determination r2 = 45.97% indicates that 46% of the variation in Academic &#13;
Interaction Quality can be explained by Politeness Speech Acts. The regression equation &#13;
Y = 37.00 + 0.486X shows that every one unit increase in Politeness Speech Acts &#13;
increases the Academic Interaction Quality by 0.486 units

Having a positive attitude towards Indonesian is a necessity. To have &#13;
good Indonesian language skills, BIPA students must have a positive &#13;
attitude towards Indonesian. This study aims to describe the language &#13;
attitudes of BIPA students towards Indonesian. The method used in &#13;
this research is descriptive method. The data used in this study were &#13;
collected through a questionnaire technique. The statements given &#13;
consist of three aspects, namely language loyalty, language pride, and &#13;
awareness of language rules. Data obtained through a questionnaire, &#13;
processed quantitatively. As a result, language loyalty aspects scored &#13;
25.2 (72%), pride in language 24.8 (70.86%), and awareness of norms &#13;
25.4 (72.57%). Thus, it can be concluded that the majority of BIPA &#13;

<title>Sundanese Cultural Values in Paribasa as a Guide to Language Politeness: An Ethnopragmapedagogy Approach</title>
<link>http://repository.unigal.ac.id:8080/handle/123456789/8505</link>
<description>Sundanese Cultural Values in Paribasa as a Guide to Language Politeness: An Ethnopragmapedagogy Approach
Hidayatullah, Asep; Dadang, Anshori; Andoyo, Sastromiharjo
This research aims to identify and analyze the values contained in Sundanese paribasa and explore their application in learning language politeness in pragmatics courses using an ethnopragmappedagogy approach. Through a content analysis method with a qualitative approach, this research succeeded in finding nine indicators of language politeness contained in paribasa, namely: friendly, clear, correct, honest, wise, respectful, sensitive, true to promises, and quality. Friendly indicators emphasize the importance of being open and polite in communication, while clear indicators show the importance of conveying messages that are easy to understand. The correct and honest indicator underlines the importance of honesty and accuracy in every utterance, while the wise indicator emphasizes the ability to consider the impact of each word before conveying it. Respect and sensitivity indicators emphasize that language politeness must pay attention to the feelings and dignity of the interlocutor. Accurate promises underline the importance of consistency in fulfilling commitments that have been made, while quality indicators refer to the importance of speaking with quality that provides benefits and value to the listener. These nine indicators show that Sundanese paribasa can be used as a practical guide in learning language politeness in pragmatics courses through ethnopragmapedagogy. This research concludes that Sundanese paribasa is relevant as teaching material in learning language politeness in pragmatics courses to strengthen ethical awareness in communication
