Abstract:
This study aims to determine how learning motivation influences the ability to write argumentative essays of class IX F students at SMPN 1 Baregbeg. The method used in this study is a correlational method with a quantitative approach. The sample was taken using a simple random sampling technique. The instruments used were a learning motivation questionnaire and an argumentative essay writing ability test sheet. The results of the study show that (1) The learning motivation of class IX students at SMPN 1 Baregbeg is classified as high. Extrinsic motivation is more dominant than intrinsic motivation. (2) Students' ability to write argumentative essays is classified as good. (3) There is a significant influence between learning motivation and the ability to write argumentative essays. Intrinsic motivation appears to be more dominant, while extrinsic motivation remains in the high category even though its influence is not as large as intrinsic motivation. This shows that the higher the learning motivation, especially intrinsic motivation, the better the students' ability to write argumentative essays. Although extrinsic motivation is also high, its influence is not as large as intrinsic motivation.
