Abstract:
E-learning developments are closely tied to the utilization of recently popularized
learning technology like Google Meet. It is strongly advised that it can improve
communication between teachers and students. This research was conducted to
investigate the teacher‟s ways in utilizing Google Meet and to explore the
teacher‟s barriers in utilizing Google Meet in speaking class. This research used
qualitative case study and were taken through online classroom observation and
semi-structured interviews as the instruments of the study. An English teacher and
fifteen students of class 1B in the first semester of an English education
department at a University in Ciamis, West Java were involved in this research. In
analyzing the data of online classroom observation, the researcher categorized and
interpreted the results of classroom observation. Then, the data from the interview
the researcher transcribed the important point, translated it into English, analyzed
the data, interpreted the data and drew the conclusion. Based on the findings, there
were three key points of the present research. First, Google Meet really helped in
online learning. Second, Google Meet offered a number of advanced features that
were simple to use. Third, the teacher had some barriers in utilizing Google Meet
including the following students‟ bad internet connection, student‟ gadget got an
error, and lack of the students‟ motivation in learning.
