dc.description.abstract ABSTRACT This study focuses on analyzing students writing a text about local content objects using textual metafunction which is contained in systemic functional linguistics. Thus, students pour their thoughts, ideas, and feelings expressed in the written language. To aim in finding out how is the student‘s ability in the process of writing a descriptive text about the local content object, and what the difficulties found by the students in writing descriptive text with the underlying local content object. The researcher used the descriptive qualitative study method as the main design of this study. To obtain reliable findings, six students out of 27 seventh- grade junior high school students. The data were obtained from collected textual analysis (students‘ paper text writing) and the semi-structured interview with students in junior high school as participants. The findings revealed that students' descriptive text writing systemic functional linguistics approach using textual metafunction still has difficulties, and the students' writing abilities are still not perfect. There are still many shortcomings. This could be due to the fact that the students here are in their first year of junior high school, and students can continue their education for the future. Referring to the result of this study, it could indeed assign student participants into three or more categories to enhance variability and differences in the results. Other analysis elements can be added in analyzing student texts, both textual and the other three elements in the systemic functional linguistics approach. There will be many differences in the rest of the students' abilities and difficulties experienced when writing descriptive texts. Then the researcher realized that there are still many shortages in this research, so the researcher really expects criticism and suggestions for improvements. Thus, the researcher also hopes this research can be a meaningful contribution to the student as well as further research. en_US
