ABSTRACT
This research reports on the teacher uses direct feedback in teaching
speaking descriptive text, and the student perceptions toward direct feedback in
speaking descriptive text. Furthermore, direct feedback in teaching speaking
descriptive text also give the student new experience in learning speaking, the
student perception also showed the positive reaction from them. Using direct
feedback in teaching speaking is the way to make the student more confidence
and interest in learning English. The teachers expect that in the future the student
can make self correction. In conducting this research the researchers used
qualitative research in which case study was employed to collect the data from
participants. The participants in this research were an English teacher and twenty
students of eighth grade students at Private Religious Junior High School. There
were three instruments used by the researchers in conducting the research such as
observation, interview and questionnaire. The findings of the observation and the
interview from the first question showed that there are ninth steps of using direct
feedback which were used by the teacher in teaching speaking to the students. The
conclusion is the use of direct feedback in speaking descriptive text can make the
student more interested, will not make the student get any bored and keep student
motivation. The researcher suggested that the English teacher who want to look
for alternative technique, method and strategies in teaching speaking can
implement direct feedback as an easy way to increase student motivation and
interest in learning process
