Abstract:
The present study report on the effectiveness of the using of animation video on
EFL young learners’ speaking activity engagement to students of elementary school
in Ciamis regency, West Java, Indonesia. To analysis the study, writer used case
study design. The data were obtained by observation, interview and questionnaire.
It was found that there were several students’ perceptions toward the use of cartoon
animation video on EFL young learners’ speaking activity engagement. They
realized that the use of cartoon animation video in speaking class can increase the
speaking activity engagement (77.7%). They were brave speaking English after
performing conversation in speaking class by using cartoon animation video
(86.1%). They realize that the use of cartoon animation video can help the student
more daring to talk (83.3%). They felt that the easier of understanding what the
teacher explained greeting material when in the speaking class (55.5%). They
realized that the use of cartoon animation video in speaking class has a lot of respect
to the teacher (61.1%). They realize that the use of cartoon animation video in
speaking class can increasing the good communication with others (72.3%). They
felt respected to their teacher when the teacher using cartoon animation video in
speaking class (55.6%). They realize that using cartoon animation video can help
the teacher in explaining speaking material (94.4%). They felt the easy in
understanding what the teacher explained when performing conversation (27.7%).
They realize that the use of cartoon animation video is good because the teacher
wants to make the student more respectful (63.9%). In conclusion, the use of
animation video of EFL young learners’ speaking activity engagement can give the
positive effect in speaking. Thus, teachers are suggested to use Animation video as
an alternative tool in teaching and learning speaking.
