This research is motivated by the need for a history learning model that can connect theory with students'
real-life experiences. The purpose of this research is to analyze the relationship between historical
theory, cultural values, and archaeological heritage in field-based practice through the application of the
Field-Based Learning approach, and to assess the effectiveness of This Approach in deepening
students' understanding and encouraging their active participation in the Kagaluhan course. This
research uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The subjects of the research were 20
students of the History Education Study Program who took the Kagaluhan course, as well as the
lecturers teaching the course. Participants also included managers of local historical sites and local
community leaders. The participant selection technique used was purposive sampling. Data collection
methods included observation, interviews, document analysis, and triangulation. The main research
instruments were observation sheets and interview guides. The data analysis technique used was
qualitative descriptive analysis, with data analysis procedures following the Miles and Huberman model.
The results showed that students were able to integrate theory with the history, culture, and
archaeological heritage of Galuh with field facts through observation activities at historical sites and local
cultural traditions. Student participation was evident through verbal and nonverbal communication in
discussions and active involvement in the field. In conclusion, Field-Based Learning effectively improves
material comprehension, critical thinking skills, and collaboration, while also fostering an appreciation for local historical and cultural heritage.

This study examines the spatial management traditions of the Kampung Kuta indigenous
community in Ciamis, exploring the underlying cultural values and their implications for
environmental sustainability. Using a qualitative descriptive case study approach, data were
collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. The results reveal that Kampung
Kuta’s spatial system is governed by local wisdom known as pamali, which functions as both a
social norm and a spatial regulation. These rules dictate the use of natural materials for stilt houses
and uniform settlement patterns that reflect simplicity and social cohesion. Furthermore, the
strictly preserved sacred forest plays a vital role in maintaining ecosystem balance and water
conservation. The study concludes that these traditions form an integrated socio-cultural and
ecological system that serves as a model for sustainable spatial planning. Pamali operates
simultaneously across normative, symbolic, and ecological dimensions, offering valuable insights
for modern sustainable management.

the quality of basic education in ASEAN remains challenging despite widespread teacher training initiatives. Reports from UNESCO and ASEAN (2016–2025) highlight the lack of contextualization in educational programs, leading to weak implementation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in classrooms. This study employed an Educational Design Research (EDR) approach to develop a conceptual model of culture-based learning in harmony with nature. The research was conducted in two phases. Phase 1 involved a comparative analysis of Indonesia’s Kurikulum Merdeka and Malaysia’s KSSR Semakan 2017, combined with classroom observations and interviews at two culturally significant primary schools: SD Model Aulady (Ciamis, Indonesia) and Sekolah Kebangsaan Sikuati (Sabah, Malaysia). Phase 2 focused on designing and validating a conceptual prototype integrating local wisdom—Kagaluhan (Indonesia) and Sumuku–Tagal (Malaysia)—into the SEA-PLM framework. Findings from Phase 1 revealed shared challenges, including limited pedagogical readiness, inadequate infrastructure, and weak integration of cultural and environmental content. In Phase 2, the resulting model successfully mapped local values into the four SEA-PLM domains: interconnectedness, environmental sustainability, equity and peace, and active global citizenship. The model was further supported with thematic learning materials and contextualized literacy assessments. The study demonstrates that regional contextualization through local wisdom can enhance the relevance and effectiveness of ESD implementation. The proposed model contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting a culturally grounded, student-centered, and sustainability-focused pedagogy for primary education across ASEAN.
